16/12/2010 The Code of Welfare for Pigs has finally been released by the government with the unprecedented announcement that sow stalls will be banned in 5 years time!
However equally cruel farrowing crates will remain legal. Farrowing crates are used by over 60 percent of the New Zealand pig industry.

A mystery multi-millionaire is promising rewards of thousands of dollars to farm workers who report their employers for cruelty to animals. There's a $2 million war chest aimed at freeing pigs, and chickens crowded into cages. John Darroch defends non-violent civil disobedience for pigs
19/08/2010 John Darroch and his support crew held a peaceful protest outside the Hamilton Disctrict Court this morning prior to the hearing. The protest was well received by the public with many people offering us words of support and wishing John the best of luck in court!

Pig protestor in court after civil disobedience against farming practices
18/08/2010 New Zealand Open Rescue activist John Darroch, will appear in Hamilton District Court tomorrow morning defending charges after chaining himself to a piggery in Roto-O-Rangi near Cambridge earlier this year. Darroch is charged with trespass and unlawfully being in a building.

Free range egg production - not all it's cracked up to be
26/07/2010 Recently New Zealand Open Rescue inspected a free range egg production facility located in the lower North Island. This facility was a small scale commercial operation but we were shocked at what we uncovered.

"Vegan in chains" cut free from pig farm
12/04/2010 New Zealand Open Rescue member John Darroch was cut free from the silo at the Roto-O-Rangi Piggery last night at around 9pm. John appeared in the Hamilton District Court this morning facing a charge each of trespass and unlawfully being in a building.
"While the action was obviously successful I found it depressing to be on a pig farm for that long with little else to focus on, the screams of the pigs during the evening were particularly disturbing" says John.
