             New Zealand Open Rescue

September 2010 - these photographs were taken recently at a North Island sheep farm. Every year in New Zealand hundreds, sometimes thousands, of Spring lambs die on farms where they are exposed to brutal weather conditions. This year in Southland, tens of thousands of lambs died in relentless snow storms. Beef and Lamb NZ described this loss of life as a significant financial blow to the meat industry. New Zealand Open Rescue calls into question this callous assessment of the deaths of so many animals. These sentient creatures have an intrinsic worth of their own far beyond the profit margins of the New Zealand meat industry.
